No matter what is said here on this page about Rodgers and Hammerstein, Yul Brynner or Deborah Kerr . . . .
they have done no wrong and we love them no matter what !

I am a big fan of Rodgers and Hammerstein - the musical genre has unfortunately faded away but there exists the corpus of their work that are among the best ever created. " The King and I " is Yul Brynner's signature role and deservedly so. Deborah Kerr's counterpoint to his 'King' is rather less than equal. That's okay though since another performance like Yul's on the same screen would have been overpowering !

A wonderful story ! Excellent performances and a lovely score combine to make "THE KING AND I" a motion picture to be seen and remembered. What's more, Deborah Kerr is gentle but determined - and this alone counts for my flashbacks, remembrances and recollections .
